President Obama gave a speech at the United Nations addressing the issue of climate change (like green house gas emissions) and the importance of addressing these issues. He vowed that the United States would commit to developing clean energy sources. The President also acknowledged that the recession may play a part in why countries have not begun to tackle this issue. He urged other countries, especially “rapidly growing developing nations” like China, to do their part too.

While reading, I was thinking about the greenhouse effect. I remembered back to the film by Al Gore, “An Inconvenient Truth” in which these types of issues are discussed. I hope that other countries do their part as well to combat the issue of climate change. I learned that this was Obama’s first speech at the United Nations. I am happy to see that the government is taking a proactive role in this issue.

I wondered how the United States is going to be able to afford to finance developing clean energy sources while we are in an economic crisis?

This article relates to our topic because President Obama is discussing alternate energy sources. Alternate energy sources is a way to help cut down on the pollution which in turn will help decrease global warming (our topic). The article also makes a connection between industrialization and its effect on the increase of global warming.
